Is it better to rake leaves and remove them from the lawn or mow them over and "mulch" them over the ground?

So "leaf removal" really is unnecessary and actually it is better to mow leaves into the lawn in the fall you think?

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT LEAVE THE LEAVES ON THE LAWN!
Sorry for shouting ;) Rake your leaves off the lawn along with all traces of the mown grass. You may gather the leaves you have raked and spread them on your plant beds as this keeps in nutrients and dampens down weed growth, but only mulch on earth, not grass/lawns.
Grass is a plant and if you cover it up it will not thrive. If grass is smothered, then moss will start to grow and this in turn with smother the grass further, then only the course thick grass will survive (not the nice looking fine green stuff like you see on golf courses!). Keep your grass clear of rubbish and other debris (grass cuttings, leaves, etc), and use an an aeriator (a roller with spikes on) to prick small holes in the ground to keep the grass from smothering. Feed your lawn regularly with liquid lawn feed.

Mother Pleads Guilty to Killing Daughter Seven Years Later
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- She was a mother who nearly got away with murder--for killing her own child. But, good police work in Huntington has now led to a conviction in Florida.
It's a story WSAZ first reported on nearly five years ago. Now, Amanda Butler is headed to prison for up to 45 years.
Amanda Butler barely spoke a word in this Jacksonville, Florida courtroom after accepting a plea bargain. The now 29-year-old has plead guilty to second degree murder punishable by up to 45 years in prison for killing her two-year-old daughter, Cheyenne, more than seven years ago.
For more than a year, Cheyenne's death went unexplained after numerous mysterious seizures that eventually lead to her death. Doctors suspected foul play--police believed Butler was smothering her baby to get attention. But, they didn't have the evidence to prove it until she tried it again--this time in a hospital room at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
"The prosecutor got an order from a judge to tape Butler and security watched that tape around the clock and they caught her," said Sgt. Kendra Beckett.
